This charming stone villa dating back to the early medieval period is situated in the old quarter of Veli Varos at the very heart of the city. The area was the first to be populated outside the walls of the Diocletian palace and used to be home to local small farmers, fishermen and tradesmen. The area still breaths with the charm of old ages, filled with winding narrow streets and alleys, enchanting shaded courtyards and konobas* and stone-tiled roofs.
Veli Varos is stated at the foot of the Marjan hill which offers 6 square kilometers of dense wooded parkland with hiking routes, quiet beach alcoves hidden among the pine trees ideal for swimming, and superb vantage points with spectacular views over the city, the neighboring islands and beyond. A walk around Marjan is an essential part of the Split experience. If you go do not forget to visit the mysterious hermitages and rock climbing spots on the south side of the hill!
Stone house Niksa is ideally tucked away from the busy streets of Split city center while being only a 3 minute walk away from the city's nucleus that is the ancient Diocletian's palace -a world heritage site. In and around this center you will find restaurants, bars, countless cafes, alleys and piazzas various shops, supermarket and the open air town market which must be seen, especially in the summer. A visit to the Split fish market is also a must -be sure to get there well before noon to see as much of the days catch as you can!
The stone house is divided into 1 apartment with one double bedroom and four private rooms all with en-suite bathrooms.
At the bottom of the stone house is a private konoba* just for use of the guest who rent this beautiful Stone house.
* Konoba; historically Konobas were simple cool rooms were wine, olive oil, cured meats and fish were stored alongside other everyday implements, and where food was often prepared which is why they usually feature fire places and dining tables. Commercial konobas (or ostarijas) which can be found throughout Dalmatia are open to paying customers and offer simple, high quality food made from freshest local ingredients using well-established old recipes and often focusing on sea food and local house wines and spirits. They are family owned and kept in the old world style and generally provide fantastic value for money as well as being an essential aspect of dalmatian living.
